Gas prices back off after recent surge

Delaware Public Media

First State gas prices are starting to retreat again.

AAA Mid-Atlantic reports the cost of a gallon of regular dropped four cents over the past seven days – from $2.19 to $2.15.

That halts a 10-cent surge over the previous two weeks due to the Colonial pipeline leak and closure. The pipeline reopened September 21st after repairs were completed.

AAA says motorists can expect a slow decrease in gas prices after the switch to winter-blend gasoline and falling demand – and predicts they could dip below $2.00 again if crude oil prices remain relatively low and there are no unexpected production issues.

Delaware drivers are currently paying 8 cents less than what they were a year ago when the average price was $2.23.

And according to Delawaregasprices.com, there are just over a dozen selling a gallon of regular for $2.05 or lower.

The national average was up one cent last week – from $2.21 to $2.22.
