Dover businessman and activist La Mar Gunn is the first person to seek the Republican nomination for Delaware’s Lieutenant Governor.

Meanwhile, the Democratic field is crowded with six candidates vying for their party’s nomination.

Gunn’s last public campaign was for Kent County Recorder of Deeds in 2014. He lost that election after the Delaware Supreme Court declined to review controversial recount results.

As the president of the Central Delaware branch of the NAACP he was an outspoken critic of the acquittal of Dover Police Cpl. Thomas Webster, who was charged with a felony assault after kicking an unarmed black man in the head in 2013.

Voters decide who will represent their party in the September 13 primary election.
