Maryland mass shooting suspect will be tried in Delaware first

Wilmington Police Dept.

The man accused of last week’s shootings at a Maryland office park and Wilmington used car lot will go to trial in Delaware first.

Prosecutors from Delaware’s Department of Justice and the Harford County State’s Attorney’s Office issued a joint statement Monday saying they agree 37 year-old Radee Prince should first be tried for his Delaware charges, then for the charges he faces in Maryland.

Prosecutors say one reason for the decision is that Delaware criminal law does not provide for parole while parole may be available in Maryland.  They say that means a Delaware sentence will have more certainty.

Prince is accused of shooting 5 people – and killing two - at an Edgewood, Maryland office park, then shooting and wounding a man at 28th Street Auto Sales and Service in Northeast Wilmington.

In Delaware, he faces a variety of charges including first-degree attempted murder. If convicted, he could receive a maximum sentence of life without parole

In Maryland, Prince could also face life in prison.  He’s charged there with three counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted murder.
