Miyazaki tribute show comes to Dover Art League

Mark Arehart/Delaware Public Media

Artwork inspired by the films of Hayao Miyazaki makes up a new show at the Dover Art League.

The famed Japanese animator’s work includes the films Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Dover Art League Interim Director Sidney Rae Moore said the show came out local artists’ love for Miyazaki's animation.

"I feel like this is a great way to get new blood into the Art League, people that wouldn’t really come in here otherwise," Moore said.

Artists from ages 13-30 created drawing, paintings and cosplay art for the show.

"It’s just all sorts of people who aren’t normally part of the Art League. Which is really exciting."

The show runs through Aug. 1 at the Dover Art League.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
