More SAFER barriers coming to Dover Int'l Speedway

Dover International Speedway is making another significant safety upgrade for its NASCAR races.

Track officials say they are adding approximately 1,800 feet of SAFER barriers to the Monster Mile’s outside walls along the frontstretch and backstretch, including the gates for track entry.

Once the project is complete, all of the outside walls along the one-mile concrete track will have SAFER barriers installed.

SAFER barrier walls better absorb the energy released when a car hits it – reducing the impact on the car and driver and making it less likely the car bounces back into the track.

Last year, the track installed nearly 1000 feet of SAFER barriers.

Work on the walls is slated to begin in March and the walls will be ready in time for the first 2017 NASCAR weekend in Dover June 2nd  to June 4th .
