Nature themed photography exhibit highlights Delaware Estuary

The Partnership for the Delaware Estuary is collaborating with the Delaware Museum of Natural History to exhibit nature photography which highlights both the beauty and importance of local streams.

The organization leads collaborative efforts to improve the tidal Delaware River and Bay which spans Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

Shaun Bailey of the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary says he thinks the exhibit will cause folks to rethink their image of the tidal waterway.

“For so long people considered it maybe a lost cause or heavily polluted perhaps and that was the case decades ago but since then it's come a very long way thanks in large part to collaboration across state lines and across the waterway itself,” he says.

DE Museum of Natural History interim exhibits manager, Helen Bilinski, arranges the exhibit.

Bailey adds a tri-state collaborative effort is vital for the health of the estuary.

“It’s really no longer a case of there being say like a pipe that you can point to where all the pollution is coming from, “he notes. “There are many different sources of pollution and to tackle those problems we really need everybody working together on their small part of Delaware, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.”

About 70 photographers submitted almost 200 pictures last summer.

The “Every Stream Matters” exhibit will be on view at the Delaware Museum of Natural History beginning Monday Nov 2nd.

This piece is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
