Poll puts Trump and Clinton ahead in Delaware presidential primaries

First State political polls are usually hard to come by, but there is one out Wednesday offering a snapshot of Delaware’s presidential primary race.

Gravis Marketing – which calls itself a nonpartisan research firm – says polling it did Sunday and Monday found Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton leading in Delaware.

On the GOP side, the Gravis poll put Trump on top with 55 percent support among likely primary voters.  John Kaisch was second with 18 percent and Ted Cruz third at 15 percent.   12 percent were unsure of which way they'll vote.

The race is closer on the Democratic side.  Hillary Clinton led Bernie Sanders by a 45-38 percent margin among likely voters with 17 percent unsure.

The poll is based on automated calls to just over one thousand likely Republican and Democratic primary voters over two days.  The margin of error is about 3 percent.

The poll also looked at the Democratic primary for Delaware’s lone U.S House seat.  It found State Senator Bryan Townsend drew 19 percent support while Sean Barney got 12 percent and Lisa Blunt Rochester received 8 percent.  61 percent said they are unsure who they’ll vote for in that September primary to replace John Carney - who’s running for governor.
