Schwartzkopf, Longhurst retain leadership roles

Delaware Public Media

For a third straight General Assembly, House Democratic leadership will remain the same.

Caucus members met Monday night, re-electing House Speaker Pete Schwartzkopf (D-Rehoboth Beach), Majority Leader Valerie Longhurst (D-Bear) and Majority Whip John Viola (D-Newark).

The Senate is still without a President Pro Tem after Patricia Blevins (D-Elsmere) lost her seat in last week’s election. Officials say that chamber will meet soon to elect a new President Pro Tem.

House Republicans will select their leadership members tonight.

Requests for comment from Senate Republicans on their leadership status was not immediately returned.

House committee assignments will be released at a later date.

Lawmakers return to Dover Jan. 10.
