Slain Delaware state trooper honored with benefit concert

Delaware State Police

The Schwartz Center in Dover hosts a benefit in honor of fallen State Trooper Cpl. Stephen Ballard later this week.

Several local bands are performing to raise money for the Delaware State Troopers Association Benevolent Fund, which provides aid to injured or fallen law enforcement and their families.

Performer and oorganizer Scott Bloodsworth said the concert is a way to remember Cpl. Ballard while helping others.

"We all wanted to be able to give back to Delaware’s law enforcement community, who risk their lives to protect ours," Bloodsworth said.

Ballard was shot and killed in the line of duty at a Bear-area Wawa late last month.

He was 32 years old and an eight year state police veteran.

The benefit concert is Thursday, May 25 at the Schwartz Center for the Performing Arts in Dover.

The Scott Bloodsworth Band, Sporadic Static, The Susquehanna Floods and Scrapple are performing.

Delaware Public Media' s arts coverage is made possible, in part, by support from theDelaware Division of the Arts, a state agency dedicated to nurturing and supporting the arts in Delaware, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts.
