The Syrian refugee family trying to settle in Delaware has arrived here.
The Jewish Family Services of Delaware and the ACLU of Delaware confirm the family of three reached the First State late Friday night.
The ACLU tells Delaware Public Media the family did not encounter any issues at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport, where they entered the U.S., or at their final destination, Philadelphia International Airport.
The refugee family had initially been scheduled to come to Delaware Thursday, but those travel plans were canceled when President Trump issued his executive order suspending admission of refugees and banning travel into the U.S. by citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries.
When a federal court subsequently put that order on hold, the family, which was stranded in Thailand, was able to rebook its trip.
Groups such as Islamic Society of Delaware and Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church are helping the family of three get settled and acclimated now that they have arrived.
