Wesley tangles with RPI in NCAA football playoffs

Wesley College’s football team tries to continue an impressive NCAA tournament streak this weekend.

The Wolverines are in the NCAA Division III playoffs for a 13th straight year – and if history is any indication – they will survive the opening round.

Wesley is unbeaten in its last 12 first round games.

The 9-1 Wolverines, ranked 13th in the nation, try to extend that streak to 13 Saturday when they entertain Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute at Miller Stadium in Dover.

New Jersey Athletic Conference champs can feel pretty confident about doing so on their home field.  Wesley is 22-2 all-time at home in NCAA tourney games.

R-P-I comes to town at 8-2.  The Engineers are making their fifth trip to the Division III playoffs, but first since 2007.  They average nearly 30 points per game, but face a Wesley squad that scores almost 35 per contest and allows only 10 per outing

Saturday’s noon kickoff is first ever meeting between the two teams.
