Wilmington University’s annual student tech showcase and competition is getting its own reboot.
The school is teaming up with entertainment company Dub3 to expand the event with multiple locations across Wilmington – similar to the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas.
Bill Dever, head of business development at Dub3, says that can establish northern Delaware’s presence in the tech world.
“You’re sending up a flare to the world and saying, ‘We’re not Silicon Valley, we’re not Redmond, Washington, we are Wilmington and Wilmington in its perception and delivery has the ability to [compete] on the global scale,” Dever said.
Under the agreement signed Friday morning, Dub3 will finance East Coast Reboot and donate 20 percent of the profit to a Wilmington University scholarship fund.
Dever says this partnership will help students make themselves more marketable while searching for a job.
“I want them to look at the world in a way that’s going to give them practical, cognitive skills that they can define for themselves where the market is evolving to," he said.
Dever is anticipating $6 million in economic impact for the city.
Organizers say they hope to restart East Coast Reboot sometime this year.
