The U.S. Women’s field hockey team is off to a strong start at the Summer Games in Rio – thanks in part to one Delawarean.
Wilmington native Caitlin Van Sickle scored the second and deciding goal as Team USA topped Australia 2-1 in preliminary round action Monday.
Van Sickle is one of two First State players on the squad – joined by Katelyn Falgowski.
The U.S. field hockey squad – ranked fifth in the world - is now 2-0 to start the Olympics after beating world number two Argentina Saturday and now world number three Australia.
The U.S. continues pool play Wednesday against Japan.
